Manx Utilities will shortly begin installing meters for its much anticipated Island-wide smart metering system.  Smart meters will form part of a smarter energy grid allowing Manx Utilities to be more precise about energy production and supply, enabling a reduction in waste and better support low carbon technologies for transport and heating.

Following the Chief Minister’s announcement yesterday Manx Utilities’ Headquarters will only be accessible to support Key Meter Prepay Customers between 08:30 and 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 to 16:30 on Friday with all other non-essential customer counter support ceasing from 12noon today; 6 January 2021.  Those who do require top-ups at the Customer Counter are requested to adhere to the 2 metre social distancing directions in place and wear a face-covering.

Manx Utilities’ Works in Peel reveal Quay Information

Construction works underway by Manx Utilities have revealed remains of an old stone quayside dating back to at least the 1700s. The works, to replace and install modern water main and sewerage infrastructure, are part of Manx Utilities’ maintenance and upgrading programme, and have seen short lengths of the Promenade and East Quay closed for several weeks at a time whilst deep excavations are undertaken.

Regional Sewage Treatment is the way forward

Following the recent Independent Inspector’s recommendation that Manx Utilities’ planning application is rejected for the sewage treatment works at Glenfaba, Manx Utilities has confirmed that regional sewage treatment continues to be the strategy for the remaining Island locations of Garff and Peel as agreed by the Board and Tynwald.

Electric Vehicle infrastructure moving forward

The organisation is committed to supporting the increased use of low emission surface transport on the Island and delivering on its commitment to Isle of Man Government’s Climate Change Action Plan 2050 to net zero carbon emissions for 2050.
