Justification for Increasing Pre-Authorisation Fee for EV Charging Service

We have observed that a small number of users do not have sufficient funds in their account to pay for transactions, resulting in lost revenue for our EV charging service. To address this issue and prevent transaction losses, we propose increasing the pre-authorisation fee from £1 to £5.

Reasons for the Increase:

  1. Preventing Transaction Losses: The current pre-authorisation fee of £1 is insufficient to cover the cost of transactions for users who do not have enough funds. By increasing the fee to £5, we can ensure that users have adequate funds available, thereby reducing the risk of unpaid transactions and lost revenue.
  2. Improving User Experience: By preventing transaction failures due to insufficient funds, we can enhance the overall user experience. Users will be able to charge their vehicles without interruptions, leading to greater satisfaction and trust in our service.
  3. Addressing Oversight: We understand that insufficient funds in users' accounts may be an oversight. By increasing the pre-authorisation fee, we can help users avoid transaction failures and ensure they have sufficient funds available for charging their vehicles.
  4. Immediate Release of Balance: It is important to note that the pre-authorisation fee is only held temporarily and only applies to App and Web-pay charging. Once the charging session is completed, only the actual cost of charging is deducted, and the remaining balance is released immediately without any wait.

Conclusion:

Increasing the pre-authorisation fee from £1 to £5 is a necessary step to prevent transaction losses, enhance service reliability, improve user experience, support operational costs, address potential oversights, and ensure the immediate release of any remaining balance. We believe that this change will benefit both our users and our organisation by ensuring a more efficient and sustainable EV charging service.
