New wastewater treatment works for Crosby and Glen Vine nearing completion
Manx Utilities have announced that the new Crosby Wastewater Treatment Works that serves the Crosby and Glen Vine area is nearing completion and already receiving flows from the catchment.
The new works is scheduled to be fully online by the end of April and will provide much improved outflows into the adjacent River Dhoo. Whilst wastewater is now being treated by the new works, it will take a number of weeks for the process to fully mature.
The works are due to be completed on programme and within budget. The multi-million pound construction scheme has been undertaken successfully by local contractors Paul Carey & Sons Ltd with assistance from off-Island specialists where necessary.
The pipeline linking the new pumping station in Glen Vine to the new works was installed last winter, to minimise impact on Heritage Trail users. With modern odour control equipment in place it is envisaged that the works will not intrude on local residents or trail users, and once the planting becomes established will be well screened.
Chair John Wannenburgh MHK said “I am extremely proud of the work undertaken by the delivery team at Crosby. This scheme will be completed in the coming weeks within budget and on time. Even with the finishing touches still to be made such as final road surfacing and landscaping, the site looks great. I now very much look forward to seeing a start being made in Peel and have every confidence that scheme will be equally successful.”
Manx Utilities is grateful for the understanding of the local community and users of the Heritage Trail whilst these essential works were completed.
