A programme of detailed roof inspections and surveys is taking place at the National Sports Centre (NSC) between 8 May and 27 May 2026 to support the proposed rooftop solar project.

The NSC is made up of several connected buildings, each with its own roof section. These are being assessed individually (referred to as Roofs 1–6) as their structure, condition and access requirements vary.

The programme includes inspections across all roof sections, along with temporary access arrangements where required, including scaffolding. Some flexibility is built into the schedule to allow for weather conditions and site requirements.

These surveys will help confirm final design assumptions and ensure the building is suitable for installation. This is preparatory work and does not represent installation or construction activity.

The aim is to deliver rooftop solar generation at the National Sports Centre, supplying electricity directly into the Island’s power system.

March 2026: We’re progressing our pilot solar project at the NSC, with detailed roof surveys now underway to confirm the building’s suitability for installation. Recent design work shows we can likely host around 735kW of solar generation on the main building roof.  While modest in scale compared to our other generation assets, projects like will help deliver on island renewable power and support our commitment to a sustainable energy future. Delivery of this project will result in the largest solar installation currently on the island.

To obtain a Consent Order for the solar, either a Certificate of Proposed Lawful Development or Planning Permission is required. We are currently working with the Planning Department with both applications.
