Manx Utilities owns and operates a 65 megawatt subsea cable connected to the 132 kilovolt distribution system in the North West of England. Power and services are traded across the cable with UK industry participants resulting in both imports and exports.

We also own and operate a large capacity subsea multi-core fibre optic cable running adjacent to the power cable which our subsidiary e-llan Communications uses to carry out wholesale telecommunications operations, enabling us to exploit the commercial potential of the spare capacity on the UK-IoM sub-sea fibre optic cable.

Supply is further supplemented by the Island's indigenous generation sources of hydro power and independent power production from an "energy from waste plant", in addition to small scale domestic renewable energy sources. The switch to less carbon intensive and more efficient generation technologies, coupled with energy efficiency programmes across all sectors is helping meet the Island's environmental and sustainability aspirations.
